City Attorney
The City Attorney, in accordance with the City Charter is appointed by the City Council as chief legal advisor. The City Attorney provides a full range of legal services to the City Council, City Departments, and all appointed boards and committees on municipal law issues. The City Attorney provides legal advice on various legal matters, including litigation, code compliance, contracts, planning and zoning matters and review and negotiation of City agreements. Additionally, the City Attorney is responsible for drafting ordinances and resolutions which come before the City Council for consideration.
One of the most important functions is to provide advice to the City Council on procedural and substantiative legal matters. The City Attorney has the opportunity to take a leadership role in promoting honesty and integrity in the City and assumes a prominent role in the legal representation of issues which have a significant impact on public policy and quality of life in the community.
