Next Municipal Election
The City of Westlake will hold its next General Municipal Election on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 (same date as the 2024 Presidential Preference Primary Election- PPPE) for the purpose of electing two City Council Seats for a 4-year term, expiring March 2028:

Municipal Candidate Qualifying
Candidate Eligibility
Each Candidate for the Office of City Council must be a registered voter in the State of Florida and a resident of the City. At the time of qualification, each candidate for mayor or a council seat must have resided within the boundaries of the City for one (1) year before qualifying and must maintain residency throughout the term of office.
Become a Candidate
Residents interested in becoming a candidate must complete and file form DS-DE 9 - Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation and Depository for Candidates prior to opening a campaign account. This form is to be filed with the City Clerk and may be done so by making an appointment. Qualifying Period - Timeframe to submit required paperwork to declare candidacy
Candidate qualifying will be held from NOON on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 to NOON on November 14, 2023. During this period, candidates must file their qualification papers and pay the state assessment fee of $120.00. The Assessment fee is 1.0% of the annual salary for the position. The assessment fee must be a check drawn from the campaign account. NOTE: Friday, November 10, 2023, the Clerk's Office will be CLOSED and staff will not be accepting qualifying paperwork.
Beginning October 2nd, candidate packets will be available. You may contact the City Clerk prior to the above qualifying dates to schedule an appointment for a packet briefing, or to turn in qualifying paperwork during the qualifying period. New Candidates should plan for at least 1 hour to meet with the City Clerk to go over the Packet and required forms.

Campaign Finance Reporting
Designated Campaign or Deputy Campaign treasurers must submit reports through the Campaign Finance Reporting Portal.
