City of Westlake Council Presents Doorway for the Collaboration of Local High School Students with one of its Anticipated Commercial Projects

Westlake’s growth to be part of the educational enrichment of local high school students

WESTLAKE, FL –  The City of Westlake has watched residential development expand quickly, and now commercial expansion and enhancements are being kicked into high gear.   The long-awaited capital improvement project for the Grove Market Shopping Center is making progress and awaits the return of National Grocer Winn-Dixie.

At the June 14, 2021, City Council Meeting, Council voted unanimously to approve a Site Plan Modification for the approximate 49,610 square foot grocery store.  With this approval, Councilwoman Long-Robinson saw another prospect for local students at the Weitz Construction Academy at Seminole Ridge High School to increase their educational possibilities.

“Westlake is a first of many, and the latest of much for Palm Beach County,” says Councilwoman Long-Robinson.  “As an educator, a proud proponent of our youth, and an advocate for community, the idea of having dialogue with developers and educators was imperative.” “To have this type of growth and development in the back yard of students in this field of study, breathes a world of opportunity.

This project sets the stage for large redevelopment within the City of Westlake, and students at the Academy can have hands-on collaboration in various disciplines, such as architecture and various sectors of construction.

“The City of Westlake is booming with residential development, and now with commercial projects on the horizon, our local students will have the opportunity for practical experience that many adults would not even have; it’s a wonderful experience,” says City Manager, Kenneth Cassel.

The grocery store has plans to open by the end of the year.
