SWA’s October Household Hazardous Waste Tip: Hazardous Chemicals Could Haunt Your Home
It’s spooky season, and chemical horrors might be hiding under your sink or lurking in your shed!
Almost every home has some chemical product that can be hazardous if not disposed of properly. Items such as rechargeable batteries, paints, motor fluids, propane tanks, pesticides, fluorescent bulbs and electronics pose a threat to the public, solid waste workers, and our environment if tossed in the trash or on the ground.
Fortunately, vanquishing these harmful horrors is easy: Palm Beach County residents can take these and other household hazardous wastes to any of the SWA’s seven Home Chemical and Recycling Centers for FREE and safe disposal.

Jupiter
North County Transfer Station

In the last fiscal year, Palm Beach County residents recycled:
- 116,599 pounds of batteries
- 563,936 pounds of used motor oil
- 230,460 pounds of cylinders/propane tanks
- 95,368 pounds of fuel
- 48,734 pounds of used paint
at the SWA’s Home Chemical and Recycling Centers. Each year, the SWA’s Home Chemical and Recycling Centers either recycles or safely disposes of 4.9M pounds of household hazardous wastes.
