Celebrate America Recycles Day by watching your garbage get recycled into energy, protecting your identity by shredding personal documents, seeing how your yellow and blue recycling bins are processed, and safely recycling or disposing of household hazardous wastes. Also onsite to add to the fun will be a variety of food trucks, environmentally-focused vendors, games, a puppet show and a heavy equipment expo. 

 

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County invites families to its Education Center at 6751 N. Jog Road in West Palm Beach on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a family-friendly recycling adventure. 

 

OPEN HOUSE 

Palm Beach County residents will have the opportunity to see the: 

  • SWA’s LEED Platinum Education Center; 
  • Nine-ton claw feed trash into the machine in Renewable Energy Facility 2; 
  • Complex recycling processes at the Recovered Materials Processing Facility; and 
  • How much garbage Palm Beach County residents throw away. 

 

SWA 4R Scavenger Hunt  

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County is excited to bring back the SWA 4R Scavenger Hunt, in conjunction with our America Recycles Day Open House. The Hunt began on Oct. 20 and wraps up Nov. 12 at 12:30 p.m. at the Celebrate America Recycles Day With the SWA event. Missions will again be available through the Goosechase app. This year’s hunt is FREE to join. Prizes will be awarded to the top three crews. Missions will be available during the event, as well. 

 

FREE PAPER SHRED 

All Points Mobile Shredding will be at the North County Landfill at 6330 N Jog Road in West Palm Beach to shred up to six boxes of personal documents per vehicle for FREE. 

 

TOYS-FOR-TOTS COLLECTION 

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County is a drop-off spot for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Event attendees can donate new, unwrapped toys to deliver a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters. Toy donations can be either for a boy or girl, from infant to 15 years of age. The hardest age groups to fill are both boys and girls, ages zero to two, and 11 and older. Clothes, stuffed animals, realistic looking weapons or gifts with food will not be accepted. 

 

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP-OFF 

Palm Beach County residents can safely get rid of their home chemicals for proper recycling or disposal at the SWA’s Home Chemical and Recycling Center at 6161 N. Jog Road in West Palm Beach (just one mile south of the event) from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Drop off your household hazardous waste to safeguard our environment. 

 

Palm Beach County residents can safely dispose of their old: 

·Automotive fluids

·Cleaning products, 

·Electronics

·Fluorescent light bulbs

·Paints

·Pesticides, 

·Pool chemicals, 

·Propane cylinders

·Rechargeable batteries

·Solvents, 

·Used cooking oils

·and more! 

 

NOTE: No needles or medications will be accepted. 

 

RECYCLING BINS 

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County will be handing out blue and yellow recycling bins for FREE to Palm Beach County residents who need them for household recycling. 

 

Directions to the event: 

·From the Turnpike: Take Exit 107, Beeline Highway (SR 710). Make a LEFT (South) onto N. Jog Road. Cross the Beeline Highway. Follow signs to the event, which will be on your right. 

·From I-95 North: Take Exit 76, Blue Heron Boulevard (SR 708) and head WEST. Cross Military Trail. Pass the VA Hospital. MERGE right onto the Beeline Highway. Make a LEFT (South) onto N. Jog Road. Follow signs to the event, which will be on your right. 

·From I-95 South: Take Exit 74, 45th St. (CR 702) and head WEST. Cross Military Trail, Haverhill Road and the Turnpike overpass. Follow signs to the event, which will be on your left.

Every year on or around Nov. 15 (America Recycles Day) event organizers educate neighbors, friends and colleagues through thousands of events nationwide.
