Councilman Erik Gleason was appointed to Seat 2 on the Westlake City Council in 2025 and is honored to serve the residents of this growing and dynamic community. A proud resident of Westlake, he is committed to ensuring that the city develops responsibly while maintaining a high quality of life, fiscal accountability, and a strong sense of community.
Raised in Lindenhurst, New York, Councilman Gleason began his career in public service with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) before relocating to South Florida in 2007, where he continued his career in municipal government and law enforcement. With over two decades of experience in government, he currently serves as a Police Commander with the Miami Gardens Police Department. His background includes extensive work in policy development, budget management, public safety, and capital improvements, giving him the expertise needed to navigate the challenges of a rapidly growing city like Westlake.
Councilman Gleason holds multiple degrees, including:
- Master of Science in Project Management – Information Systems, Florida Institute of Technology
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) – Information Technology Management, Florida Institute of Technology
- Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, Florida Institute of Technology
- Associate of Arts, Florida Institute of Technology
His educational background, combined with hands-on experience in government procurement, ordinance implementation, and infrastructure planning, provides him with a unique perspective on Westlake’s long-term development and fiscal sustainability.
Beyond his public service, Councilman Gleason is a devoted husband and a proud father of three children. He values family, community engagement, and creating opportunities for future generations to thrive. In his free time, he enjoys baking, staying active, and spending quality time with his family.
